Rio’s nightlife is fascinating, multi-faceted and lively. Rio itself is the birthplace of the samba, the seductive dance with the fast hip movements. And the bosa nova, with its special samba rhythm – often played with a virtuouso guitar – and other lively Latin music and music from other parts of the world - bring a wide variety to the nightlife in Rio.
Even when Rio’s nightlife gets into full swing only around midnight, it is often recommended to come earlier, because many hip discos have very long line ups. Wearing sandals and shorts to upper class places will mostly keep you out. Entry fees are between 5 and 40 dollars. Unless otherwise indicated, the minimum drink charge is 5 dollars, but sometimes also much higher. In most clubs you get a card where your tab is added and at the end of the night you pay the total.

The Lapa district is where you can find great places to go out: Samba clubs, funk, hip-hop and pop. Keep your eyes open at all times when going through the area, because there just might be small, spontaneous, fun events going on.

In Copacabana, one of Rio’s most popular areas where many of our guests book their apartment, you will find many nightclubs. On some corners you will find the sex trade and pretty girls, but there are also many good music clubs, for example the Fosfobox nightclub, the Bunker, Help, Filter Club, Mutante and the Mariuzinn.

Plataforma
If you can’t manage to book an apartment during the time of the world famous carnival, you will still be able to get an idea of the colorful and body-hugging costumes at Plataforma. Here people dance the samba and the Brazilian martial art of capoeiras is demonstrated. Nuth Lounge in Barra da Tijuca
A trendy club on two floors - from above you have a great view of the dance floor – plus a stylish outdoor area. It’s one of the most popular clubs in Rio de Janeiro. To ensure you get in, come early especially if you are a group of men. The music ranges across the board, from Brazilian hits to hip hop and techno. There is no special dress code, but it pays to be dressed more stylishly, because this is the place where the most beautiful night crowd goes.
Tip: On the second floor is a good restaurant where if you have dinner there around 10 or 11 pm you will already be inside the club – and the party can begin.
